Hans-Michael Wolffgang

Dr. Wolffgang was appointed Professor of Law at the University of Münster in 1995. He is Director of the Institute of Customs and International Trade Law (ICTL) at the University of Münster. The institute promotes academic training and research in the field of customs and international trade law. It offers the unique study programme „Master of Customs Administration“.

Besides his academic activities Dr. Wolffgang is founding partner of the AWB Group, consisting of subsidiaries for legal advice, tax consultancy and business consulting, based in the German cities of Hamburg, Munich and Münster. AWB specialises in customs and international trade, including import and export compliance, customs procedures, export control and sanctions law, trade remedies, VAT law, sustainability and environmental measures like CBAM, EUDR and other trade prohibitions and restrictions. Since 2005, Dr. Wolffgang and the AWB team of more than 50 lawyers, tax advisors and trade consultants have advised German and international companies on all legal issues and business areas related to the cross-border movement of goods into and out of the European Union.

Dr. Wolffgang is also a member of various advisory bodies on an honorary basis. They include working groups and advisory boards of the European Commission and the World Customs Organization. He is Vice-President of the International Network of Customs Universities (INCU) and a speaker at international conferences and the author and editor of numerous publications on customs and international trade law, including the World Customs Journal (www.worldcustomsjournal.org).
